Thomas L Burns, Sr.

–

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Thomas J. Burns, Sr., affectionately known as B-pop or Burnsy" to family and friends. Peacefully passed away on November 14,2024 at the Methodist Hospital surrounded with the love of his family. Born on April 27,1941 to the late William F and Viola (nee: Stroyek) Burns Sr. and has been a lifelong resident of South Philadelphia. A retiree of the waterfront where he worked in security. Tom had a warm smile and heart of gold and was loved by all those who knew him. The time he spent with family meant the world to him and holidays always held a special place in his heart. A deeply religious man loved his Sacred Heart Parish family. He was very healthy and enjoyed going for bike rides and working out at local gyms. Tom loved watching the Phillies and boxing matches and could be found throwing a few of his own combinations on the heavy bag in the basement. His personality was as colorful as the clothes he wore, and keeping tradition meant everything to him, even going to pick his yearly family Christmas tree was special cause he did it with family. In his spare time reading books about the Bible and War were his favorite. A kindhearted, devout, caring, dry sense of humor type of guy was how he will be remembered. Beloved husband of 59 years to Eleanor (nee: Lamplugh) Burns. Loving father to Thomas (Carol) Burns and Eleanor (Joseph "Droopy") Gedraitis and proud Pop of Patrick (Hadia Thompson) Dwyer, Erik Burns, Sean Burns and Lauren Gedraitis. Tom was preceded in death by his siblings: Margaret Spites, Clara Wilson, Bill Burns, and Joseph Burns. Brother-in-law of Donna Burns. Sadly, he will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation Thursday eve from 7-9pm and again on Friday morning from 8-10:15am at the Murphy Ruffenach Brian W Donnelly Funeral Home, 3rd & Wolf Sts. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Buriel will be held at the family's convenience in Old Swedes Cemetery. In keeping with his devotion and love for Sacred Heart of Jesus Church donations in his memory can be made there in his memory.
