Samuel J. DeCero
June 19, 1926 – October 11, 2026
Samuel J. DeCero, a devoted family man, proud United States Navy veteran, and lifelong Philadelphian, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Nazareth Hospital, at the remarkable age of 100.
Born on June 19, 1926, in South Philadelphia, Samuel was the beloved son of the late Louis and Concetta DeCero. One of eight children, Samuel was blessed with a large and loving family. He was the last surviving member of his generation, having been preceded in death by his seven cherished siblings: Tony, Dominic, Lewie, Rocky, Rosie, Mary, and Carmella.
Raised in the close-knit neighborhoods of South Philadelphia, Samuel attended Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic School, where his early years helped shape the values of faith, family, and hard work that would remain with him throughout his extraordinary life.
With a deep sense of patriotism and duty, Samuel proudly served his country in the United States Navy, an honorable chapter of his life that reflected his strength of character and dedication to service.
Among life’s greatest blessings was meeting the love of his life, Josephine Marrone. Together, they built a beautiful family rooted in love, devotion, and cherished traditions. Samuel was the loving father of Bernadette (Allan) Imhoff, Janice Blickos, and Samuel DeCero Jr. His family remained his greatest source of pride and happiness throughout his life.
A man who believed in the dignity of an honest day’s work, Samuel dedicated more than 40 years to his career as a skilled sheet metal worker. His strong work ethic, craftsmanship, and unwavering commitment to providing for his family were qualities that defined him both professionally and personally.
Outside of work, Samuel embraced life’s simple pleasures with enthusiasm. A true Philadelphia sports fan, he faithfully cheered on his hometown teams, holding a particularly special place in his heart for the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. Whether celebrating a victory or enduring a difficult season, his loyalty never wavered.
Samuel also enjoyed trying his luck with the lottery, a pastime that brought him great excitement and, on more than a few occasions, good fortune. Those who knew him might say that his greatest luck, however, was found not in a winning ticket, but in the wonderful life he lived and the family he loved so dearly.
A true gentleman in every sense of the word, Samuel took tremendous pride in his appearance. He had a particular appreciation for a finely tailored suit and believed that every detail should be just right. His impeccable presentation was a reflection of the pride, dignity, and care with which he carried himself throughout his life.
Yet, as distinguished as his appearance may have been, it was his generous spirit that left the greatest impression. Samuel possessed a heart of gold and found genuine happiness in sharing what he had with others. His kindness was never measured by what he received in return, but by the joy he could bring to those around him. He understood that life’s greatest riches were found in generosity, love, and the relationships we build along the way.
Samuel was also the proud and loving grandfather of Gina(Chris), Dana(Dave), Daniella(Carlos), Sammy, Nicholas, and Nicholas. and the cherished great-grandfather of Diana, Gabrielle, Bryan, Dillion, Dominique, Deanna and Carly . To his family, he leaves behind a remarkable legacy spanning generations, filled with treasured memories, enduring values, and a lifetime of love.
Having been blessed with a century of life, Samuel witnessed a world of extraordinary change, yet remained steadfast in the things that mattered most: family, hard work, generosity, and pride in all that he did. His was a life well lived, a life filled with purpose, and a life that will continue to be celebrated through the many generations who follow him.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Samuel’s burial on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at precisely 11:00 A.M. at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in section 2.
Samuel’s memory will forever remain a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
