Rhoda Grady
November 17, 1936 – October 14, 2026
Rhoda Grady, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished companion, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2026, at the age of 89, surrounded by the familiar comforts of her own home.
Born on November 17, 1936, in Philadelphia to the late Nathan and Clara (née Schager) Weinberg, Rhoda was one of five children. Raised in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia, she grew up surrounded by the love and companionship of her four siblings, the late Elliot, Phillip, Robert, and Sheila Weinberg, all of whom preceded her in death.
Rhoda’s love story began at a USO dance at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, where she met the man who would become her husband, the late Donald Grady. It did not take long for the two to realize they had found something truly special. After just one month of dating, they knew they wanted to spend their lives together. Their marriage would blossom into a beautiful family, welcoming two children, Cheryl (Thomas) Romano and Scott (Anna-Marie) Grady, who would remain among Rhoda’s greatest sources of pride and happiness.
To know Rhoda was to appreciate her remarkable personality. Blessed with a sharp mind, a wonderful sense of humor, and a quick wit, she had a special way of bringing laughter and joy to those around her. Friendly, outgoing, and always ready for a good conversation, Rhoda possessed a warmth that made people feel welcome and comfortable in her presence. She had a genuine love for people, but nothing compared to the extraordinary love she held for her family. Whether it was a simple phone call to check in, a lengthy conversation to catch up, or time spent together making memories, Rhoda always found a way to remain close to those she loved. Her family was truly the center of her world, and she never missed an opportunity to remind them just how much they meant to her.
For more than 30 years, Rhoda shared a loving and devoted companionship with Walt Gottahalk. Their many years together were filled with friendship, affection, laughter, and treasured memories. Walt held a special place in Rhoda’s heart, and her passing leaves an immeasurable void in his life.
Rhoda took tremendous pride in the generations of family that followed her. She was the loving and devoted grandmother of Shain (Darren) Morgan and Megan (Josh Labian) Grady, and the adoring great-grandmother of Darren and Delaney Morgan and Grady Labian. Watching her family grow brought her immeasurable happiness, and she cherished every opportunity to be a part of their lives. The love she shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was unconditional, and the memories they created together will remain a lasting part of her beautiful legacy.
Outside of the time she treasured with her family, Rhoda knew how to enjoy life. She loved the excitement of a good game of bingo, the thrill of visiting the casino, and the opportunity to travel and experience new places. She also enjoyed spending time at the Lebanon Senior Center, where she could socialize, share stories, and enjoy the company of others. Rhoda embraced life’s simple pleasures with enthusiasm, always appreciating a little fun, a good laugh, and the companionship of those around her.
Rhoda’s 89 years were a testament to a life filled with love, laughter, meaningful relationships, and countless cherished memories. She will be remembered not only for her quick wit and spirited personality, but also for the kindness she extended to others and the unwavering devotion she showed her family. Although her presence will be deeply missed, the sound of her laughter, the warmth of her conversations, and the love she so freely gave will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Her life was a beautiful reminder that the greatest treasures are not the things we accumulate, but the people we love, the laughter we share, and the memories we leave behind.
