Mr. Maurice "Maynard" Maynard Obituary (1931

Maurice B. Maynard, lovingly known as "Mr. Maynard" by students past and present at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Parish and school/ St. Anthony of Padua elementary school passed away peacefully at Jefferson University Hospital on the 26th of January 2024 with his family by his side.Born on the 2nd of January 1931 in Moriah, NY to the late Stewart Maynard and Arlene (nee: McGarry) Generose was raised in Hazleton, PA. where he met "Shirley", his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life! After marrying in 1951 they settled in South Philadelphia where they have spent over 72 years together. Maynard served in the United States Army and the United States Army National Guard Reserves for a combined 7 years in the 1950s. He was a patriotic man and was proud of his service for his country.Maynard retired from A. Pomerantz and Co. office furniture after 30 years as a warehouse manager. He then found happiness working for St. Nicholas of Tolentine Parish as the custodial engineer for the school, church and convent for many years afterward. He was a good man who gave so much and was loved by so many school children and parishioners alike. His smile was filled with love and pride in his work. Aside from being "on call" for maintenance emergencies he decorated the church for every holiday and set up the parishs annual Italian Festival each fall.Maynard was a loving, caring, generous and fun man who always enjoyed a good party and a nice cold Miller High Life. His family will miss him but will always be proud of the man that he was.Beloved husband of Antoinette "Shirley" (nee: Steco) Maynard. Loving father of Arlene (Claude Davis) Grooms and Maurice "Marty" (Nora Furey) Maynard. Proud grandfather of Jason (Trisha) Grooms, Jeremy Grooms and Rachel Grooms. Great grandfather "grandpop" to Serena Grooms. Brother of the late Stewart Maynard and sister Marion Maynard. Aside from his immediate family he will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, good friends and the parish community.Relatives and friends are invited to gather Saturday morning on the 3rd of February for visitation from 10-11am at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church, 910 Watkins St. Philadelphia, PA 19148. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am. Interment will be private.In keeping with his giving spirit, memorial donations in his memory can be made to St. Jude Research Hospital for Children, PO Box 1999, Memphis, TN 38101.
