Mary A. McClain peacefully passed away on September 9, 2026, at The Fountains at Logan Square.
Born on February 15, 1934, to the late Albert J. and Mary S. (nee: Malone) Collins, Mary was a lifelong resident of South Philadelphia. For many years, she worked for The Philadelphia Inquirer at the death notices desk, a position she held with dedication and care.
Mary deeply loved and missed her late husband, Robert “Mick” McClain Sr. Together, they shared many happy years and especially enjoyed their day trips to the casinos in Atlantic City. Following his passing, the love and memories they shared remained close to Mary’s heart.
A woman of deep faith, Mary found great comfort in her religious beliefs throughout her life. At home, she enjoyed the simple pleasures, including relaxing and watching the Hallmark Network. Above all else, family was most important to Mary. She cherished the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and took great pride in watching her family grow through the generations.
Mary will be remembered for her warm smile, strong will, deep faith, and unwavering love and devotion to her family.
She was the loving mother of Mary E. Hand, Robert (Denise) McClain Jr., Michael (Aracely) McClain, and the late William F. McClain. She was the dearest Mam Mom of eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Mary will also be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Tuesday morning, September 15, 2026, from 9:00–10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM.
Burial will follow in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, where Mary will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Mick.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mary’s name may be made to VITAS Healthcare, 1787 Sentry Parkway West, Suite 400, Blue Bell, PA 19422.
Mary lived her life guided by faith, strengthened by family, and surrounded by love. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
