Margaret Ann Dillon, lovingly known as “Margie” to her family, friends, and coworkers, unexpectedly and peacefully passed away on September 1, 2026, at Thomas Jefferson Hospital, with her loved ones by her side, following complications from a medical procedure.
Born on February 6, 1965, to the late Martin and Elizabeth (nee: Niven) Grassinger, Margie was a lifelong member of her 2Street community, a neighborhood that was truly a part of who she was. For many years, she has worked for the City of Philadelphia in the Tax Assessor’s Office, where she formed many friendships throughout her career.
Above everything else, Margie loved her family fiercely. She was their biggest supporter and would champion any cause, activity, or endeavor that involved the people she loved. She may have had a tough exterior and was never afraid to tell you exactly what she thought, but beneath it was an incredibly warm and generous heart. If someone she cared about needed help, encouragement, advice, or simply someone to listen, Margie was there.
A simple lady who appreciated the everyday moments of life, Margie could often be found sitting on her steps on her Winton Street block, talking, laughing, and socializing with her neighbors. She enjoyed taking rides around the neighborhood with her friends, catching up on everything going on and simply enjoying their company. Her funny comments, sarcastic expressions, quick wit, and warm smile were unmistakably Margie and will be greatly missed.
Margie was the beloved wife of 43 years to John G. Dillon IV. Loving mother of John (Lisa Boyd) Dillon V, Erik Dillon, Jimmy (Jessica Mitchell) Dillon, and the late Patrick Dillon and Ryan Dillon. Dearest Mom Mom of Hailey and Aubrey and their mother, Sandy Barraco, and Ryan Patrick Dillon, and great-Mom Mom of Gabriel and Emma Bertolino.
She was the sister of Patricia (Robert) Righter, Martin Grassinger, and the late Elizabeth Allen. Daughter-in-law of John and Dorothy Dillon. Sister-in-law of Sissy (Joseph) Buzzetto, Peggy (Dan) Alfrano, Kathy (Bob) Fiocca, Michael (Nicole) Dillon, and the late William (Michelle) Dillon.
Sadly, Margie will also be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, coworkers, neighbors, and dear friends, all of whom will remember a woman who could be tough when she needed to be, funny without even trying, and fiercely loyal to the people she loved.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Tuesday Evening, September 8, 2026, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, and again on Wednesday morning, September 9, 2026, from 8:00 to 10:10 AM, at the Murphy Ruffenach Brian W. Donnelly Funeral Home, 3rd & Wolf Streets.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM. Margie will be laid to rest alongside her beloved sons, Ryan and Patrick, in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
Memorial donations in Margie’s memory may be made to the RJD Foundation (254 Chapman Rd. Ste 208#5721 Newark, DE 19702.) , in memory of her late son.
Margie’s strength could sometimes disguise just how tender her heart truly was. Those fortunate enough to know her understood that behind the sarcasm and tough exterior was a woman who loved deeply, gave freely, listened without judgment, and would do anything for her family. Her presence on Winton Street, her familiar smile, and especially her love for her family will never be forgotten.
