Joseph M West

Joseph W. West, peacefully passed away on September 20, 2026, at Thomas Jefferson Hospital.

Joe was a proud United States Army Veteran, having honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. Born on January 22, 1943, he was the son of the late John and Cecelia (nee Bandoch) West and was a lifelong resident of South Philadelphia.

Joe was a dedicated employee of the City of Philadelphia and DC 33, where he proudly worked in the Sanitation Department before retiring. He was a proud American who valued his country and the community he called home.

Joe was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan and enjoyed following his favorite team. He also enjoyed trying his luck with scratch-off tickets and could always find a little excitement in the possibility of a big win.

He was the beloved husband of Marguerite (nee Hodgetts) West and loving father of John (Lisa) Galbraith, Marge (Bill) Eiser, Joseph West, and Kevin West. He was the proud grandfather of Savanna, Brett, Ava, Cole, and the late Derek.

Joe was the dear brother of Leonard (Christine) West, Thomas (Mary) West, and the late John and Richard West, and brother-in-law of Anna Calter. He is also survived by his loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Funeral services will be private at this time.
