Joseph J. Banning, Jr.

–

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Joseph J. Banning, Jr. lovingly known as "Archie" to family and friends. Peacefully passed away on November 2, 2026 at the Thomas Jefferson Hospital with his loved ones by his side. For many years he worked as a warehouse produce packer for Thomas Colace Incorporated. Joey was an avid, diehard fan of the Boise State Bronchos and has even traveled to Idaho a few times to watch a game. He enjoyed traveling together and has visited several exotic destinations such as Bermuda, Costa Rica and... Ohio! He loved taking trips to the Poconos with his friends and to Wildwood for various mummer's weekends and events. Joey was such a movie enthusiast that the neighborhood bootleg DVD seller was able to retire on an island. He also cherished TV classics such as The Three Stooges and The Honeymooners. And if it was a rainy day, you better believe that every pipe in the house was getting checked incessantly for leaks. Joe was a proud member of the Golden Crown New Year's Brigade and remained a lifelong member of the John J. O'Malley social club. He was inducted into the Mummer's Hall of Fame in 1997. He treasured his family and friends. He loved traditions, especially emphatically stating he was getting the giant turkey leg every Thanksgiving, even though no one else wanted it. He was famous for visiting practically all of his family and friends each Christmas Eve and Christmas Day after a few cans of Schmidt's in the past, and in the more recent years, he could be seen trekking back and forth to the Acme with his little shopping cart and then to Jimmy's Water Ice for a giant bag of a soft pretzels.
Joey was a kind and generous man, who would do whatever he could to help out his friends or family. He was loved and cared for every day of his life by his family and amazing friends and he will be greatly missed.
joe will be sadly missed by his Siblings: Carol Simon, Sara Sissy Hoffman, Michael Banning (deceased), and James Banning and also by his loving Nieces & nephews: Larry Meenan, Dawn Meenan, Christine Hoffman, Michael Hoffman, Eric Hoffman, Michael Banning, Jr., Seamus Banning, Nellie Banning Lerro, Tricia Banning Bemak, Ryan Banning, Lillah Banning.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Friday, November 6, 2026 from 8-10am at the Murphy Ruffenach Brian W Donnelly Funeral Home, 3rd & Wolf Sts. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will follow in SS: Peter & Paul Cemetery.
