Josef Lyle Barabona, affectionately known as Lyle to his family and friends, unexpectedly passed away on September 7, 2026, after a brief illness at Presbyterian Hospital, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Manila, Philippines, to Fely (nee: Binas) and the late Leonel Barabona, Lyle was proud of his Filipino heritage and the traditions and values that were instilled in him from an early age. In 1992, he and his family relocated to the United States and made Philadelphia their home.
An auto mechanic by trade, Lyle was talented with his hands and enjoyed working on cars. Over the years, he also developed a great love for cooking, particularly Asian cuisine. His passion for food eventually led him to work as a chef for British Airways, a career he truly enjoyed.
Above everything else, family was Lyle’s world. He was happiest simply being surrounded by the people he loved and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them. A simple and easygoing man, Lyle enjoyed rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles, occasionally taking a trip to the casino, watching Filipino television shows, and spending quiet time along the water at the Navy Yard. He also found great peace in visiting his father’s resting place at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, where he could reflect and feel close to him.
Lyle never needed much to be happy. His greatest joy came from his family, good food, familiar traditions, and the simple moments shared with those closest to him. He will be remembered as a happy, loving, caring, and devoted family man who remained proud of his Filipino roots and always put the needs of his family before his own.
He will be deeply missed by his beloved siblings, Blair Barabona, Cyril (Paul Leja) Barabona, and Givrt (Tes) Barabona. He will also be sadly missed by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
Lyle’s kind heart, love of family, and warm presence will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
