Jean Marie Custer Obituary (1945 - 2026) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Jean Marie Custer, age 80, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, announces her peaceful passing on June 15, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Born on September 15, 1945, in Philadelphia, Jean was the beloved daughter of the late Genevieve (née McGarrigle) and Joseph Aggar, who lovingly raised her, along with the late Stephen Katchuk. A lifelong resident of South Philadelphia, Jean attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Grade School and graduated from St. Maria Goretti High School. Jean dedicated many years of service to MCS, where she worked until her retirement and formed many lasting friendships. In her younger years, she was an avid bingo player and throughout her life enjoyed trying her luck with the lottery and the occasional scratch-off ticket. Jean will be remembered for her strong-willed nature, unmistakable stubbornness, and, above all, her loving and generous heart. Her devotion to her family and her enduring spirit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Joseph Fleming; her cherished daughter, Cynthia Fleming Truxton; and her siblings, Stephen Katchuk and Pauline McGann. Jean is survived by her loving children, John (Jeanne) Fleming and Robert Custer, who selflessly and devotedly cared for her around the clock during her final years of illness. She is also survived by her treasured grandchildren, Amber Lyons, Billy Truxton, and Dr. Maureen Fleming; her adored great-grandchildren, Juliana Moore, Madison Lyons, Makayla Lyons, and Cayden Truxton; and her loving sister, Marianne Killian (Katchuk), whose unwavering support and companionship meant so much throughout the years. Jean will also be deeply missed by her many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Jean's life on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Murphy Ruffenach Brian W. Donnelly Funeral Home, 3rd & Wolf Streets, Philadelphia, PA. Funeral services will begin at 8:00 PM. Interment will be held privately. Jean's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
