Francis "Gink" McCone Obituary (1937

Francis "Gink" McCone, age 86. Peacefully passed away on June 13,2024 at the Vitas with family by his side. Born on August 3,1937 to the late Maurice and Jane (nee: Pierce) McCone and has been a lifelong resident of South Philadelphia. For many years he worked for Local 107 teamsters, a job he loved. Family meant the world to Franny and he especially cherished the time he spent with his granddaughter, Everleigh. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time at the Jersey shore. Francis was an avid Phillies sports fan and never missed a game his granddaughter played in. A proud Irishman who was never ashamed to wear his green. New Years Day was always filled with memories especially when he paraded with the Strutters, whom he marched with for 27 years. A loving. Caring, generous, selfless man who loved to sit and talk to people and was a one-of-a-kind character. Beloved husband and best friend to Irene (nee: McGinley) McCone whom he has been married to for the past 63 years. Loving father of Jennifer (Bobby) VanBlunk and proud doting Pop Pop to Everleigh VanBlunk. Fur Pop Pop to Rosie. Brother of the late Theresa Thompson, Jack McCone and Maurice McCone Jr.. Sadly, he will also be missed by his nieces, nephews, cousins and by many lifelong friends. Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation Tuesday morning from 8-10:40am at the Murphy Ruffenach Brian W Donnelly Funeral Home, 3rd & Wolf Sts. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with burial to be private. Franny always enjoyed taking his granddaughter to play at the park. His family would appreciate donations in his memory to be made to Burke Playground, 1919 E. Moyamensing Ave. Phila., PA 19148.
