Dominick Anastasi, affectionately known as “Dom” to his family and friends, peacefully passed away on November 3, 2026, at Vitas, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on October 5, 1959, to the late Dominick and Annamarie (nee Giordano) Anastasi, Dom was a proud lifelong resident of South Philadelphia.
Dom was a longtime retiree of the Philadelphia School District, where he worked for many years as a locksmith. But his life was about much more than his career. Dom had a true passion for professional wrestling and wrestled for many years with an independent wrestling company, performing under memorable names including “Guido Provolone,” “Scarecrow,” and, of course, “The Godfather.” He loved everything about wrestling, especially the camaraderie, friendships, and fun that came along with it.
A true Philadelphia sports fan, Dom proudly cheered for his hometown teams, but his heart had a special place for the Philadelphia Flyers and Phillies. He could talk sports with anyone and loved sharing his passion for the teams he followed so closely.
Dom also enjoyed giving back to the neighborhood he loved. He spent many years coaching Little League teams at Palumbo’s, Murphy Recreation Center, and the DV Fields. Whether he was on the wrestling mat, coaching a baseball team, or talking sports with friends, Dom was happiest when he was surrounded by people.
Although Dom was a big man in stature, he had an even bigger heart. Beneath his tough exterior was a true teddy bear—loving, generous, and always willing to help someone in need. He had a wonderful ability to make people feel welcome and was the kind of person who made friends wherever he went.
Dom was also quite the cigar aficionado. He enjoyed many a day at the Twin Shop, relaxing with a good cigar and enjoying the company of friends. Those who knew Dom will surely remember him with a cigar in hand, talking sports, sharing a story, or simply enjoying the moment.
Above all else, Dom was a family man. He loved his family deeply and was especially devoted to his grandchildren. His greatest joy was watching his family grow and being the proud Pop they could always count on.
He was the beloved husband of 32 years to Frances Loverdi. Loving father of Dominick (Crystal) Anastasi, Thomas Anastasi, Jennifer Daley, Frances (Joe) Loverdi, Jay (Margaret) Rosado, Jimmy (Melannie) Rosado, and Christopher (Gina) Rosado. Proud Pop of Dominick, Nicholas, Riley, Anthony, Alyssa, Angelina, Peyton, Kevin, Giavanna, Bella, Tatianna, Michael, Selena, Savannah, Michelle, and RJ, and great-Pop of Akai.
Dear brother of Maria (Michael) Hornberger, Lisa (Billy) Killian, and Carmel Anastasi.
Dom will also be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, especially his longtime friend Mike Marco.
Dom leaves behind a lifetime of memories filled with family, friends, sports, wrestling, coaching, cigars, laughter, and countless good times. He was one of a kind—a big-hearted guy who loved his family, loved his neighborhood, and knew how to enjoy life. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Saint Paul, 9th and Christian Streets, Philadelphia.
His Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the GoFundMe established by the family in Dom’s memory. https://gofund.me/b4c177d42
