Carmen Gelo

–

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Carmen R. Gelo, Age 74. Peacefully passed away on July 30, 2026, in the comfort of her home with her loved ones by her side.
Born and raised in the Grays Ferry neighborhood in Philadelphia. Carmen grew up surrounded by her loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Family was at the center of her life, and the close-knit relationships she shared with extended family shaped who she was. Those bonds remained deeply meaningful to her throughout her life.
Carmen lived a life marked by compassion, strength, resilience, and an unwavering devotion to her family and friends. She shared a special bond with her sister, Donna, whose love and compassion were a constant source of joy throughout her life.
Carmen was the beloved aunt of Michael and John Paul “Jack” Corsetti and a cherished great-aunt to their children. She is also lovingly remembered by her stepmom, Francine, and sisters, Raigan and Alexis. Carmen will be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousin, extended family and friends, all of whom were touched by her kindness and generous spirit.
A familiar and beloved presence in Southwest Philadelphia, Carmen managed Deli Roma for 15 years, where she enjoyed serving the community and forming lasting friendships with customers and neighbors. She later began a career with Independence Blue Cross, where she worked with dedication until her retirement.
In her free time, Carmen found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast and loved keeping her mind active. She treasured time spent with family, sharing laughter, creating memories, and celebrating life’s special moments.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Penn Medicine Hospice for their exceptional care, kindness, and compassion that they provided to Carmen during her final days. Carolyn, Shawna, Nell, and Jenny, your support and comfort will never be forgotten.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 9-10:20 am at Stella Maris Church, 10th & Bigler Sts. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 am, and burial will be private.
