Wister "Jack" Atwood Jr

October 7, 1951 - February 19, 2022

Wister L. Atwood Jr. known to family and friends as Jack. Passed away peacefully on February 19, 2022 at St. Monica Nursing Home in Philadelphia. Born on October 7, 1951 to the late Wister Atwood Sr. and Louvenia (nee; Ross) Atwood the 3rd of 13 children, he was a lifelong resident of South Philadelphia. Wister (Jack) attending Smith Elementary School, Barrett Junior High and South Philadelphia High School where he earned his diploma. Wister (Jack) lived life, he was father figure to his younger siblings, nieces and nephews. Many of whom shared stories of how Uncle Jack protected them as they walked to and from school across the tracks and had secret moments of memories that they and Uncle Jack only knew about. Wister (Jack) enjoyed cars, music ( the oldies), drawing and creating pencil animated art , he would flip the pages and his drawings seemed to come alive, he was way ahead of his time as far as his art was concerned Wister (Jack) was a fixture at Bookbinders Restaurant on 15th Street in Center City. He worked as a cook there, cooking was a passion of his and he was excellent at it. After Bookbinders closed Wister (Jack) worked at a major restaurant on the Parkway. Wister enjoyed riding his bike to work and throughout the city, during one of his journeys he was struck by a car ending his career as a cook. Wister loved the LORD!!! He would say in the weeks leading up to his home going it is not up to you, or me, it is up to GOD what happens to me. Wister (Jack) leaves to mourn him two children daughter Wendy Ann Bradley and son Jack Atwood Cauley, siblings Angela Wilson, Rebecca (Harry) Butler, Kenneth Atwood, Jeanette (Darryl) Hall, Alice (Joe Smith) Person-Smith, Yvette Atwood, Kimberly Castleberry, Stephen (Angela) Atwood, Demetrius (Veronica) Atwood, Ernest Atwood and the late Anita Tillman and Darryl Atwood. Also, he is survived by grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to gather Saturday afternoon from 12-1:00pm at the Murphy Ruffenach Brian W Donnelly Funeral Home, 3 rd ∧ Wolf Sts. Home Going Services will follow 1:00pm. Burial private
