Roberta "Berta" Gussin Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Roberta M. Gussin, affectionately known to all as “Berta”, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2022, at home with her loving family by her side. Born on October 23, 1947, to the late George and Romey (nee: DahDah) and has been a lifelong resident of South Philadelphia. Berta was a teacher at “Just Like Home Preschool and Nursery”, she had a warm smile and made “her” children at school feel loved. In her younger years she loved spending summers in Ocean City, New Jersey, where so many wonderful family memories were created. She was a tough mother who overcame so many trials and tribulations in life. Roberta was dedicated to her family and their needs, always putting family first. Summer trips to the shore, caring for her beloved pets and eating sweets were some of the passions that made her happy. Simply put Berta loved life but wouldn’t sugar coat anything. Her smile could immediately warm a room or a gathering. Preceded in death by James Abdalla, Sr. Beloved mother “Berta” to Suzanne (Frank) Martorano, Lorraine Abdalla, Alex Abdalla, Ann (Marc Sr.) Manuella and the late James “Jimmy”, Jr and Robert Abdalla. Dearest Grandmom “Berta” to Michael, Stacy, Francis, Justin, Michael “Georgie”, James, Ashley, Bridget, Michael, Gianna, MarCia, Marc Jr., and great grandmother to Aviana, Jasir, Isabella, Royce, AnneMarie and Charles. Mother-in-law of Kim Righi. Sister of Edward (Theresa) Gussin, Margo Gussin and the late George “Butch” Gussin. Sadly, Berta will also be missed by her uncle, Ray (Diane) DahDah and so many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends, especially Trisha (Sara) McGehrin and her childhood friend Jane (Reyer)McGovern. Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation Friday morning, July 22nd, from 9-11am at the Church of the Annunciation, 10th & Dickinson Sts. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am.
