Peter J. Clayton “Pete”, age 81, passed away peacefully on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2021 his favorite holiday. Born on June 24, 1939 to the late John Clayton and Margaret Tesche and has been a lifelong resident of South Philadelphia and was a proud Unites States Army Veteran who served during Vietnam. He worked as a longshoreman with Local 1291. Pete will be remembered as a patient, caring, witty, generous husband and friend to all. He enjoyed deep-sea fishing and the time he spent at his home in Cape May, NJ. He was a member of the John J. O’Malley Men’s Club, Erma Moose Chapter 1539, Cape May Points Sportsmen’s Club and was a former member of the Villas Fisherman’s Club. Beloved husband and best friend to Agnes (nee: Pooler). Devoted brother of Marie Benner and the late John, Margaret Lord, Helen Williams and Bertha Rossello. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, Godchildren, cousins, and especially Patrick McMullen and Danielle Remshard. Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 9:30 to 10:20 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church (3rd & Wolf Sts.), followed by his funeral mass 10:30 am. Burial will be private. Military honors will be rendered following mass. In Pete’s memory donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
