April 29, 1952 - March 10, 2022
John J. Donia, Jr. peacefully passed away on March 10, 2022 at home with his family by his side. Born on April 29,1952 to the late John J. Sr. and Margaret (nee: Edger) Donia, John was a proud resident of South Philadelphia for many years. He retired from Verizon, CWA where he worked as a splicer. His retirement gave him an opportunity to return to his true passion, carpentry. John was a skilled craftsman who had a gift for creating beautiful intricate carpentry. He had “hands of gold” and he shared his talents with so many homeowners within our community making their houses into beautiful homes. John cherished spending time with his family at his vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, where many memories were created, especially for his granddaughters. Deep sea fishing also was a favorite past time for him throughout the summer. His family will fondly remember him as being selfless, unassuming, loving, generous, caring, devoted to family, kindhearted, and loyal. John is the beloved husband of 47 years to Debbie (nee: Smith) Donia. Loving father of Melissa “Missy” (Steve) Moscinski and the Rev. John E. Donia. Proud doting Poppy of Lilah and Charlotte Moscinski. Brother of Kathleen (Lawrence) Mullan, Margaret (Thomas) Lego, Donna (Thomas) Doyle, Loretta Donia, and Thomas (late Kathleen) Donia. Brother-in-law of Gerard (Constance) Smith and the late Raymond Smith, Edward Smith, and Marianne Smith. He will also be missed by his sister-in-law, Carole Smith and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation Friday evening from 7-9pm and again on Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 8-10am at the Murphy Ruffenach Brian W Donnelly Funeral Home, 3rd & Wolf Sts. Johns’ Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30am by his son, Rev. John E. Donia. Burial will follow in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Memorial donations in his memory can be made either to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 2319 S. 3rd St. Phila., PA 19148 or to St. Charles Borromeo Seminary Development Office, 100 E. Wynnewood Road, Wynnewood, PA 19096.
