Fay E. Barnes (nee: Meadowcroft) passed away on April 21, 2021 at the Pennsylvania Hospital surrounded by her family. Born and raised in Philadelphia and has been a lifelong resident of Philadelphia. She worked as a seamstress for the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union. Later in life she worked at her son-in-law and daughter’s business, the Porter Street Deli in South Philly. Fay will be remembered as a strong, independent, hard working woman who would never turn her back on anyone in need. She enjoyed walking around Center City, shopping in Macy’s, day trips and family trips to the Jersey shore but most of all she loved the time she spent with her family. Beloved wife of the late Charles R. Barnes, Sr. Loving mother of Lillian (late Vincent) Zanghi, Donna (Joseph) McFarland, Charlene (Michael) Formisano, Carole (Robert) LaBrier and the late Charles “Chucky” Barnes. Dearest Nanny of 14 grand and 15 great grandchildren. Sister of the late Dolores Merrick and John Meadowcroft. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Marion Barnes, nieces, nephews, cousins and many extended family. Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing on Monday from 10 am to 12 pm at the Murphy Ruffenach, Brian W. Donnelly Funeral Home (3rd & Wolf Streets). Funeral Home Service 12 Noon. Burial private. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
