March 22, 1938 - January 9, 2021
Amado Estanislao Santiago, 82, of Philadelphia, passed away on January 9, 2021 at the home of his son in Mullica Hill, NJ. Amado is survived by his beloved wife, Violeta Garcia Santiago; his three sons: Napoleon, Alex, and Fernan. He leaves behind a family who loves him including his three daughters-in-law: Joji, Sheryll, and Gina. Most especially, his legacy runs on through his beloved grandchildren whom he adored: Christian, Emmanuelle, Cody, Dylan, Jared, Ashley, Jordan, Mikaela, Isabella, and Devin. Amado was born on March 22, 1938, in Manila Philippines to his mother, Juliana Tubay. He migrated to the United States in 1973 to provide his family with a better life and worked 15 years as a steamfitter in the Navy Yard in Philadelphia. In the neighborhood he was known as the Dad who was always willing to give advice and support to his sons’ friends, and who always had time to play softball and basketball with the kids. He enjoyed the simple things in life like sports, the casino, fishing, cooking, and getting together with family. Our family will always look forward to his delicious barbecue sticks, beef nilaga, and his unsurpassable turkey gravy during holiday meals. A simple man of very few words, he is remembered not for what he said but for what he stood up for – family. Loyalty was very important to Amado and he was a friend that could always be relied on. He taught his sons to be loyal to their wives and children and to fiercely protect them – he reminded them of this to the very end. He loved his grandchildren the most and they, in turn, have provided him with years of joy as he watched them grow and become the unique individuals with the same values that he put on family and love. A man who spent his life with his one true love, Violeta, he had her in his thoughts and words until the very end. Amado will truly be missed – perfect husband, perfect father, perfect and loving grandfather. We miss you and will forever love you, Lolo. Funeral mass will take place at 10 AM Saturday, 16 January, 2021 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church on 3rd Street, South Philadelphia. Burial private. We wish to limit attendance due to these unprecedented Covid times. However, the funeral mass will be recorded and live-streamed and the link will be shared.
